Lack of peso coins causes traffic in SLEX

- Perseus Echeminada -

MANILA, Philippines - Lack of P1 peso coins has been triggering traffic build up along tollgates of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), a top tollways official said yesterday.

Alma Tuason, spokesperson of the South Luzon Tollways Corporation, said an average of 180,000 vehicles passing the SLEX cause tellers to usually run out of coins resulting to traffic build up.

“We advise motorist to prepare exact amount to keep the vehicles moving” she said.

Tuason also reported that only a minor accident – rear end collision of bus and car near Calamba Exit – occurred along the SLEX in the past three days.

She said they are expecting heavy traffic buildup since last night up to Sunday morning as thousands of motorists from the South begin returning back to Manila after the Holy Week.

“We are expecting an increase from the average 180,000 vehicles to more than 200,000 vehicles coming back to Manila on Sunday until Monday morning “ Tuason said.
