Palace still studying if Black Saturday will be a holiday

- Aurea Calica -

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang is now studying whether to declare April 23, Black Saturday, a holiday.

The day is sandwiched between Good Friday and Easter Sunday but Proclamation No. 84, which President Aquino signed last December, declared only Maundy Thursday and Good Friday as holidays.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said a proposal had already been sent to the Office of the Executive Secretary to declare Black Saturday a holiday.

She said the Palace would make an announcement about it early next week or before people take their Holy Week break.

Valte called on Filipinos to make the Holy Week a time to reflect and be with their loved ones.

She also reminded them to be safe when traveling by taking precautions and getting contact numbers for emergency assistance.
