Noy doubles cash reward for model public servants

- Michael Punongbayan -

MANILA, Philippines - The cash prize for awardees to the 2011 Search for Outstanding Public Servants has been doubled after President Aquino approved the granting of P5 million in additional funds for this year’s Honor A-wards Program.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) said that because of the provision of additional funds, this year’s Lingkod Bayan and Dangal ng Bayan awardees will receive P200,000 instead of P100,000, while Pagasa awardees will receive P100,000 instead of P50,000.

The finalists will be conferred their awards in September.

Aquino pledged the funding increase last year.

Aside from the cash reward, the awardees will be given scholarships for master’s and doctorate degrees that are transferable to their spouse or child.

Lingkod Bayan and Dangal ng Bayan awardees are also entitled to automatic promotion with the corresponding salary increase.

The CSC accepts nominations for awardees until April 15.

The Dangal ng Bayan award is given to a government employee who shows exemplary performance in public service and constant demonstration of ethical behavior.

The Lingkod Bayan Award is conferred on an individual or group whose idea or performance has a nationwide impact.

The Pagasa Award is granted to an individual or group for outstanding contributions that directly benefit one or more government agencies.

The CSC said nominees to any of the three award categories should be in government service at the time of nomination, have received a rating of at least Very Satisfactory for the last two consecutive performance rating periods, have no pending administrative or criminal case at the time of nomination, and have not been convicted of such. Posthumous nominations are also accepted.
