3 dead, 11 hurt in Jolo bombing
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – At least three people were killed and 11 others wounded when a bomb exploded near an elementary school in Jolo, Sulu yesterday.
Brig. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo, Sulu island commander, said two died on the spot and three others died later at the Sulu Provincial Hospital.
The bomb exploded at around 5:20 p.m. along Scott Road in Barangay Lower San Raymondo, he said.
Lt. Col. Randolf Cabangbang, Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command spokesman, said the names of the victims were not immediately available.
Cabangbang said initial findings showed that the improvised explosive device was placed beside the fence of the Salih Ututalum Elementary School.
“The powerful blast damaged the school building, three tricycle bikes, three motorcycles and the school concrete fence,” he said.
Tanalgo said no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Tanalgo said bomb experts were gathering “the debris to determine the type of IED used in the attack.”
