MANILA, Philippines - The last batch of winning party-list groups may be proclaimed today, seven months after the May 10 elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said yesterday.
Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) is set to convene today to resume canvassing and possibly proclaim the last three winning party-list groups.
“There are just a few more votes in Lanao del Sur that have to be canvassed by the NBOC so we may proclaim the remaining party-lists,” he said.
Out of 57 seats allocated for the party-list sector in Congress, three slots still have to be filled, Larrazabal said.
About 12,000 voters participated in the special elections held in Lanao del Sur last Nov. 13, according to the Comelec.
The party-list groups still in the running for the remaining congressional seats are AT, Adhikaing-Koop, ALIF, ALE, A-Kasosyo, Ay Buhay, KMA-PTM, and Aakbay.
In a resolution last Thursday, the NBOC said it would reconvene this afternoon to canvass the votes from the special elections in Lanao del Sur.
Special polls were held in the Lanao del Sur towns of Buadiposo Buntong, Kapai, Marantao, Calanogas, Ganassi, Lumbatan, Pagayawan, and Tugaya after the Comelec declared a failure of elections in these areas last May.
