GenSan home of Pacquiao's sister raided for gambling

- Nonong Baliao -

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines - Police arrested here yesterday 10 suspects in anti-gambling operations after a raid at an outlet of the illegal numbers game “Last 2” that turned out to be the house of a sister of world boxing champion and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao.

The raiding team seized a still undetermined amount of money wagers and various Last 2 gambling paraphernalia after the raid late yesterday afternoon on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Oscar Noel.

The suspects were brought to the San Isidro Police Station, where Rep. Pacquiao followed and inquired what was going on.

“Kung totoong mga tauhan ang mga to sa Last 2 at ang kapatid ko ang nagpapataya, hahayaan ko na ang pulis na magsagawa ng kaukulang hakbang (if it is true that the suspects are involved in Last 2, I will allow the police to do the right action),” Pacquiao told reporters.

Pacquiao’s elder sister Isidra Paglinawan reportedly owns the house that was raided.

Police regional director Chief Superintendent Felicisimo Khu has recently ordered a crackdown on outlets of the notorious numbers game Last 2, which is based on the daily winning number combination of the online lottery draws of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

The police action was prompted by public outcry over the proliferation of illegal gambling in the city and outlying areas in Central Mindanao.

Illegal gambling operations reportedly rake in a minimum of P3 million in daily revenues.
