Water level in Angat Dam rises after rains
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – The water level in Angat dam rose over the weekend because of the rains produced by cloud seeding operations conducted by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM).
The Bulacan Provincial Disaster Management Office (PDMO) reported that the dam’s water level rose 2.46 meters from 160.06 meters last Saturday morning to 162.52 meters at 8:00 a.m. yesterday. The dam’s water level, however, is still below the critical level of 180 meters.
The disaster management office said at least two strong typhoons bringing heavy rains would restore the normal water elevation level of the dam.
Some of the plant’s power turbines, which were shut down two weeks ago when the water level plunged below 160 meters, are now working again.
Angat dam supplies 10 percent of the electricity requirement of the Luzon power grid and 97 percent of the water requirement of Metro Manila.
The dam is also a major source of irrigation for agricultural land in Bulacan and Pampanga.
