More immigration officers deployed to DMIA

MANILA, Philippines - Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan has deployed more immigration officers at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) inside the Clark Special Economic Zone in Pampanga.

Transportation Secretary Jose de Jesus is studying the possibility of making the DMIA the country’s premier airport.

“We are ready to deploy more immigration officers at Clark if authorities choose it as an alternative landing and takeoff site for international travelers,” Libanan said.

In a weekly command conference yesterday, Libanan instructed Airport Operations Division chief Ferdinand Sampol to augment manpower at DMIA after domestic and international airlines diverted their flights there due to poor visibility at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport whose navigational system was being calibrated.

Libanan said 32 immigration officers have undergone intensive lectures on the following: Immigration laws, rules, procedures, and policies; Document fraud and detection; Impostor recognition; Passenger assessment and profiling, grounds for exclusion and deportation; Philippine citizenship laws; Border control information, and International immigration practices.
