MANILA, Philippines - The girlfriend of president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad, will wear a simple yellow gown during his oath taking today.
A report on GMA-7 news said Aquino personally chose and ordered Soledad’s gown for the historic event from four designs made by fashion designer Rajo Laurel.
It was not clear, however, if the gown will be worn by Soledad during the oath taking at the Quirino Grandstand or during the party at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
Soledad earlier told The STAR that she will attend her boyfriend’s oath taking upon his invitation, similar to what happened during his proclamation at the Batasan Pambansa.
Soledad said she is still amazed at how people react to her when she goes to public places.
“They have great respect for me, maybe because they see Noy in me,” Soledad said.
Soledad, who took her oath before Valenzuela City Regional Trial Court Branch 171 Judge Maria Nena Santos, has vowed to pursue pro-poor programs in Valenzuela City and other parts of the country in support of the Aquino administration.
As an opening salvo of her charity work, Soledad has teamed up with Roy Sangil, president of the Socio-Economic Advancement of Pinoy, an umbrella organization that helped in the campaign of Aquino, to distribute books to street children in Alabang tomorrow morning.
“This is the start of the pro-poor programs that will complement the efforts of Noynoy,” Sangil said, adding that the focus of their projects will be the street children in Metro Manila and in other parts of the country.
