Pinoys join UN Walk the World
MANILA, Philippines - About 15, 000 Filipinos joined yesterday the United Nations World Food Program (WFP)’s “Walk the World 2010,” a global campaign that aims to end global hunger.
WFP country director Stephen Anderson and WFP national ambassador against hunger actress KC Concepcion led thousands of participants at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City in this year’s Walk the World with the theme, “Isang Hakbang! Pilipinas 2010.”
“Proceeds from the event will benefit about 70,000 school children in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao through the WFP’s Emergency Food-for-Education Program,” Anderson said.
The WFP said about 59 million children around the world go to school hungry.
The WFP, in partnership with governments and the private sector, is taking a global stand to improve their nutritional status and provide them a healthier future.
WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. It aims to feed more than 90 million people in 73 countries this year.
