CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao , Philippines – The three gubernatorial candidates in Maguindanao cast their votes early in separate precincts yesterday.
Esmael Mangudadatu, Datu Odin Mayor Ombra Sinsuat, and Antao Midtimbang each promised to restore “political democracy” in the province feared for its warlords and private armies.
They were optimistic clean and honest elections would be held in their political bailiwicks.
Rogue bands of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) supporting different candidates clashed with armed supporters of re-electionist mayors in Datu Piang and Datu Salibo, Mamasapano towns in Maguindanao.
