MANILA, Philippines - Winding down its campaign, the Nacionalista Party (NP) will hold its miting de avance tonight at the Manila Harbor Center, Radial Road 10 (R10), Vitas, Tondo in Manila.
Standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar, his running mate Sen. Loren Legarda, and members of NP and guest senatorial bets are set to deliver their last pitch to voters and supporters from 5 p.m. onwards.
The NP headquarters said Villar is expected once more to speak on the real issue of this year’s elections – competence and track record to eradicate poverty.
Despite the black propaganda hurled by his opponents, Villar said he remains undaunted and confident that he could pull off an upset against his closet rival Sen. Benigno Aquino III of the Liberal Party, much like the Dewey-Truman experience.
Harry Truman won the 1948 US presidential elections, although surveys had consistently shown Thomas Dewey winning the race.
Villar traces his roots to Tondo.
