Pinay hurt in Moscow subway blast

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipina suffered minor facial injuries in a bomb attack that killed 37 people and injured others at Moscow’s subway stations yesterday, the Philippine embassy in Moscow reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). 

Philippine Ambassador to Moscow Victor Garcia III identified the Filipina as Maria Aileen Ponting.

Garcia said Ponting’s injuries are not life-threatening and embassy staff are providing assistance.      

 Meanwhile, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos, Jr. said the Philippine embassy continues to closely monitor the situation of Filipinos in Russia after the explosion.

 It was earlier reported that all officers and staff of the embassy are safe.

 There are 1,083 Filipinos in Russia consisting of professionals, skilled and semi-skilled workers. 

 The explosion occurred at the Lubyanka station near the Kremlin and Russia’s intelligence service, the Federal Security Bureau.
