Bets urged to spend more on science, education

MANILA, Philippines - A Nobel laureate who recently visited the country has urged presidential aspirants to spend more on science and education.  

Prof. Torsten Wiesler, a Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, urged candidates to come up with programs related to education and science and tech-nology.

Wiesler was given the prestigious award in recognition of his pioneering work on the neural basis of visual perception.

His recent visit to the country was part of the Bridges Program of the International Peace Foundation.

Wiesler said “governments must have more resources for science and education for global harmony and peace.”

Meanwhile, a party-list group composed of science educators and journalists said it hopes to get the support of the voters this coming election to pursue its programs and projects with emphasis on science and technology and education.

The Alyansa ng mga Gru-pong Haligi ng Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Mama-mayan, Inc. or AGHAM, a non-stock, non-profit association of science professionals, science journalists, advocates and enthusiasts, aims to promote science education and a culture of science among our people.
