MANILA, Philippines - The mayor of Honolulu, Hawaii made the last ditch effort of donating thousands of blankets intended for the victims of storm “Ondoy” in Pasig City yesterday.
Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann personally handed over his donation to Pasig City Mayor Roberto Eusebio during simple ceremonies at the Philippine Sports Arena.
“We are fortunate to come home and snuggle in our beds at nights, and our hearts go out to the thousands of families in this area who are still going without. May these families gain strength from our humble gifts, and may these blankets serve as a reminder that the people of Hawaii bring comfort, warmth and joy to the survivors of the flood,” Hanneman said.
Hanneman led a delegation in their travel to Manila, the Ilocos provinces and Cebu as part of the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii’s 21st Annual Trade Mission to the Philippines.
Some Filipino officials based in Hawaii were also in the Hawaiian delegation.
Hannemann is one of the most prominent American mayors who serves as a trustee in the US Conference of Mayors.
