CHED to get funds from HEDF for schools' rehabilitation
MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will get funds from the P1-billion Higher Education Fund (HEDF) for the rehabilitation of state universities and colleges (SUCs) damaged by tropical storm “Ondoy” and typhoon “Pepeng.”
CHED chairman Emmanuel Angeles said that P800 million will be taken from the HEDF for the rehabilitation of the affected SUCs.
It was learned that one-third of the 111 SUCs supervised by CHED sustained damages from the two weather disturbances.
Angeles also called on SUCs, as well as private higher education institutions (HEIs) to allow tuition fee payment deferments for their students, especially those whose families were affected by the back-to-back typhoons.
“We urge them to assist all students whose families were victimized by Ondoy and Pepeng,” Angeles said last Friday in a speech at the launching ceremonies of the “Taga-Ilog” campaign of ABS-CBN Foundation to promote awareness among the youth on the need to clean up and care for the Pasig River.
The project is being supported by CHED.
