Simultaneous Masses for Cory set today
MANILA, Philippines - To mark the 40th day of the passing of former President Corazon Aquino, Catholic bishops and priests all over the country will offer simultaneous Masses at noon tomorrow.
Masses dedicated to Aquino will be offered tomorrow in the following churches: Antipolo Cathedral to be officiated by Bishop Gabriel Reyes; Pasig Cathedral, Bishop Francisco San Diego; Cubao Cathedral, Bishop Honesto Ongtioco; and the Redemptorist Church in Baclaran, Fr. Ino Cueto.
The Don Bosco and Greenbelt chapels in Makati will also offer noon Masses for the late President.
Churches in other parts of the country will also offer noon Masses for Aquino: Angeles City Parish Church, Bishop Pablo David; Alaminos Pangasinan Cathedral, Bishop Marlo Peralta; Cathedral of Bangued (Abra), Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian; Cathedral of San Jose (Nueva Ecija), Bishop Mylo Vergara; Cabanatuan Cathedral (Nueva Ecija), Bishop Sofronio Bancud; Lipa Cathedral, Archbishop Ramon Arguelles; Cathedral of Balanga (Bataan), Bishop Socrates Villegas; Cathedral of Tarlac, Bishop Florentino Cinense; Cathedral of Zamboanga, Bishop Romulo Valles; Xavier University Chapel (Cagayan de Oro), Fr. Jett Villarin; Cathedral of Davao City; and La Salle Dasmariñas.
Several other events are being scheduled to pay tribute to Aquino this week.
The Philippine Postal Corp. (Philpost) will launch commemorative Cory Aquino stamps after the noon Mass at the EDSA Shrine today.
Tomorrow, a group of photojournalists – led by Bullit Marquez of the Associated Press, Eric de Castro of Reuters, Ted Aljibe of Agence France Press and Dennis Sabangan of EPA – in partnership with KameraWorld, SM Malls and the Benigno S. Aquino Jr. Foundation will launch an exhibit of photographs depicting the Filipino people’s tribute to the late President during her wake and funeral. The photo exhibit will be launched at the SM Mall of Asia and will be taken to other SM malls in subsequent weeks.
Also tomorrow, 200 “iamninoy” runners will go on a “Heroes’ Run” around the Ayala Triangle – a pocket of greenery in Makati bounded by monuments of Gabriela Silang, Pio del Pilar and Aquino’s slain husband, former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. – starting at 4:30 p.m.
