Kris' remarks on Noynoy upset some people

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s sister Kris may have said sorry for “interfering” in her brother’s love life, but residents of Valenzuela City, particularly the womenfolk, are still smarting from recent remarks on her brother staying single.

In a random interview yesterday in the city, people gave mixed reactions to Kris’ remarks against Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad, although most described the actress as “bratty.”

“Galit. Marami ang nagalit (Many are angry),” Blessie, 34, a vendor of Barangay Isla, told The STAR when asked to react to Kris’ remarks on Channel 2’s SNN program, which she co-hosts with Boy Abunda.

“It could be that she doesn’t like all women. Maybe she doesn’t like anyone for her brother,” Cielo, 25, a city hall employee, said in Filipino.

Another city hall employee advised Kris to go slow on making public statements on Noynoy’s love life.

“We love the councilor. Maybe Kris doesn’t know how close Lani is to our hearts. She should be careful with her words,” said Mercy, 30 of Malinta.

“Maybe Kris can’t believe that the councilor really loves Noynoy,” said a close relative of the councilor.

But Kris’ fans said they perfectly understood her.

“Kris is simply being true to herself. She is strongly opinionated, headstrong, maybe a bit spoiled but charming in a way. That’s why she can get away with it every time she opens her mouth. But give her a break. She has apologized, hasn’t she?” said Vincent, a lawyer at the city hall.

True to form, Valenzuela City’s top councilor in the last local polls has refused to give a hint about what she thinks and feels about the issue.

Soledad has been known to keep her privacy when it comes to her personal life.

Sources close to Soledad said the lady councilor is content to stay in the background and continues to be a source of strength and inspiration for Noynoy.
