Bishops want songs with sexual innuendos banned
MANILA, Philippines - Catholic bishops want two songs banned from the airwaves for espousing “immoral” sex in violation of the teachings of the Catholic Church.
These songs are “Banana” and “Nagmamahal Ako ng Bakla,” according to Kalookan Bishop Deogracias Iniguez, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines public affairs committee chairman.
Speaking over Catholic Church-run Radio Veritas, Iniguez said the lyrics of the songs have double meanings that were intentionally placed by the composers.
“This should not be because for sure these are very, very immoral, and it goes against the teachings of love, and it goes against the teachings of respecting one’s sexuality,” he said.
“These songs should be banned… (The lyrics of the songs) are against the teachings of the Church and of morality.”
“Banana” is sung by Blanktape to the tune of “Right Now,” while “Nagmamahal Ako ng Bakla” is sung by the group Dagtang Lason.
An excerpt from Banana: “Sige i-try mo ang aking banana, pag natikman mo di magsasawa. Dahil masustansya ang aking banana at ubod pa ng sarap ang aking banana.”
“Nagmamahal Ako ng Bakla” goes: “Mga tambay lang kami sawa sa babae, may mga babaeng manloloko pineperahan lang kami kaya ngayon bakla na lang ang aming iibigin masarap magmahal ang bakla ohh kay sarap…damhin.” – Evelyn Macairan
