Low-pressure area spotted off Samar

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said yesterday rains would continue to prevail over most parts of the country in the next two to three days due to a shallow low-pressure area off Northern Samar.

Pagasa weather forecaster Rommel Yutuc said Central and Southern Luzon, the whole of Visayas and Mindanao would have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country, meanwhile, would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Yutuc said the SLPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

Compared to last week, he said, the weather would be better in the next few days as the southwest monsoon weakens.

As of 2 p.m. yesterday, Yutuc said the SLPA was spotted at 150 kilometers east-northeast of Northern Samar.
