Warm, humid weather to prevail this week

MANILA, Philippines – The weather bureau expects warm and humid weather to continue over most parts of the country in the next three days.

Rene Paciente, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather forecaster, said Luzon would experience afternoon rainshowers and thunderstorms due to “local heating.”

On the other hand, an inter-tropical convergence zone would bring scattered rains over Mindanao, he added.

Paciente said maximum temperature in Luzon is expected to reach 33 to 34 degrees Celsius in the next three days.

“Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms,” he said.

“The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.”

Administrator Prisco Nilo of Pagasa said three tropical storms are expected to enter the country this month.

July is one of the rainiest months and has the most number of typhoons, according to Pagasa.

The weather bureau warned the public of stronger tropical cyclones and “above normal” rains in July and August as the southwest monsoon season peaks.

“The July-August months are likely characterized by heavy rains and strong winds and thunderstorms, activity associated with the southwest monsoon,” Pagasa senior weather specialist Daisy Ortega said. – Helen Flores
