10 dead, 20 missing in landslide

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 10 people were killed while 20 others were reported missing in a landslide in Barangay Napnapan, Pantugan town in Compostela Valley yesterday.

Initial reports reaching this city said the landslide occurred at 3 p.m. in a mining area in Sitio Boringop following two days of incessant rains.

Compostela Gov. Arthur Yap said families had been warned to leave the area but they signed a waiver to stay.

Rain and darkness prevented government troops and disaster teams from launching rescue operations last night. – Edith Regalado
