US destroyer anchors near Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A US Navy destroyer was deployed off Basilan and Sulu to assist in US training operations, a US military official confirmed yesterday.

Maj. John Hutcheson, public affairs chief of the Joint Special Operation Task Force-Philippines (JSOTF-P), said the US warship is in the area to support the training exercises of the US military unit under the JSOTF-P.

The USS Kidd, a fletcher-class destroyer, was spotted last Monday off the coast of this city. – Roel Pareño
