Peanutbutter brand recalled
MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) has ordered the recall of a peanut butter brand after it was found contaminated with salmonella, a water and food-borne bacteria.
In a health bulletin, BFAD director Prof. Leticia Guttierez said that Yummy Sweet and Creamy Peanut spread weighing 224 grams and 490 grams with batch number 3040905 and 11240810 must be withdrawn from the market.
Their expiry dates are 90409 and 52409.
The product is manufactured by Samuya Food Manufacturing Inc.
Guttierez said consumers have been advised not to eat products covered by these batch numbers and to “throw them away in a manner that prevents others from eating such products.”
“Persons who think they may have become ill from eating the peanut spread covered by the batches are advised to consult their health care providers,” she added.
The BFAD has also asked distributors, retailers and food establishments to make sure that they do not distribute and serve these products.
The bureau also directed Samuya to come up with a system in which consumers could return said products that are still in their possession and get a refund. – Sheila Crisostomo
