Government nets 585 drug pushers in February
The government rounded up close to 600 drug pushers and users and seized P12.5-million worth of illegal drugs from Feb. 1 to 20 as part of a stepped up drive against illegal drugs, the Department of the Interior and Local Government announced yesterday.
DILG Undersecretary for Public Safety Marius Corpus said the arrests and seizure were the results of 343 anti-drug operations launched by the Philippine National Police in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
“For the period from Feb. 1 to 20, our policemen have launched 343 illegal drug operations that resulted in the arrest of 585 drug pushers and users and the filing of 324 cases in court,” Corpus said at a press briefing.
The intensified anti-drug operations came in the wake of a presidential directive for all concerned agencies to coordinate more closely with the DILG in addressing the continuing drug menace in the country. – Jaime Laude
