Cory's kin injured in US road accident
Former President Corazon Aquino’s elder brother Don Pedro Cojuangco and other relatives were injured in a car accident in the United States on New Year’s Day, ABS-CBN news reported in its website yesterday.
Aquino’s spokeswoman Deedee Siytangco said Cojuangco and company were cruising along a major freeway in California last Jan. 1 when a trailer truck bumped their car. Siytangco added that details of the accident remain sketchy, but noted that 11 vehicles were involved in the pileup.
Cojuangco was declared out of danger and has been discharged from the hospital but Cojuangco’s wife and one of their daughters-in-law are still in hospital due to injuries obtained from the accident. But both are also out of danger.
Cojuangco is chairman of the board and president of Central Azucarera de Tarlac, Inc. He is also the chairman and president of Jose Cojuangco and Sons, Inc. Hacienda Luisita, Inc., Tarlac Development Corp. Luisita Golf & Country Club, Inc. and Liberty Insurance Corp. He is also the former president and chief operating officer of First United Bank, now the United Coconut Planters Bank.
