MANILA, Philippines – President Arroyo appointed two new officials as heads of two subsidiaries of the Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC).
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita announced that former Negros Occidental congressman Genaro Rafael Alvarez III was appointed as chairman of the PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corp.
Peter Anthony Abaya resigned last month as head of the PNOC-Alternative Fuels Corp. because of health reasons.
Mrs. Arroyo, however, appointed Abaya as president of the PNOC-Development and Management Corp., apparently after his health problem had been resolved.
Based on the website of the PNOC-DMC, the current president is Wilfredo Bacareza Jr.
It was not clear how the appointment of Abaya would affect Bacareza’s position.
Ermita also announced the appointment of lawyer Jovy Bernabe as president of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. of the Department of Agriculture.
The Department of Justice also reported the appointment of Carlos Ballelos as the new prosecutor of Lipa City. – Marvin Sy
