2 low-pressure areas flood Metro Manila

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains brought by two low-pressure areas affecting the country caused flash floods in most parts of Metro Manila yesterday afternoon.

The weather disturbances were spotted at 260 kilometers east of Southern Visayas and at 190 kms east of Luzon as of 2 p.m. yesterday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

A low-pressure area is commonly associated with bad weather. A tropical cyclone, if on sea, can be formed in such conditions.

Pagasa director Prisco Nilo said the low-pressure areas would continue to dump rains over Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, and the Visayas in the next two days.

Nilo said so far there is no indication that the low-pressure areas would develop into a storm. – Helen Flores
