New database to speed up court cases

MANILA, Philippines – The judiciary will launch a computerized monitoring system next week to speed up proceedings in the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan and Court of Tax Appeals.

Under the case management information system (CMIS), all cases in these courts will be kept in a database to allow easy access for the justices and their staff.

Lawyer Midas Marquez, Supreme Court spokesman, said the project aims to reduce delay in litigation of cases and prevent congestion in these courts.

“CMIS seeks to strengthen judicial accountability, enhance the capacity of the justices to manage caseloads more efficiently and in a more convenient manner, improve access to justice and public access to relevant information on cases,” he said. – Edu Punay
