Construction worker claims P249-M win

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – A 63-year-old construction worker from Quezon City claimed yesterday the P249-million on-line lottery jackpot, the biggest lotto prize money won by a single bettor, thanks to the winning combination he picked from numbers on a tin can label.

Sources at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office said the winner was accompanied by a sister and a nephew when he collected the prize money at the PCSO central office along E. Rodriguez Boulevard in Quezon City before noon yesterday. His identity was withheld for security reasons.

The source said the winning combination 1-15-29-32-46-47 for the 6/49 Superlotto draw that netted a jackpot of P249,005,120.40 was chosen at random by the construction worker from numbers he saw on the label of a tin can.

He said the winner needed over a week to muster the courage to claim his prize and admitted being in a state of shock, not knowing what to do with the money.

“He decided to buy a house and lot and placed the remaining money in the bank,” he said.

The source said this is the biggest jackpot prize for the year.

Two Quezon City residents and another winner from Mindanao shared the second biggest jackpot prize of P133 million last January.

A lone winner also won the 6/45 Megalotto jackpot of over P100 million last February.
