Congress resumes session tomorrow

-

Congress will resume session tomorrow with Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. remaining at the helm despite reported attempts to unseat him.

The Senate and the House of Representatives went on Christmas break last Dec. 21 without passing the proposed budget for 2008 and the Cheaper Medicine bill.

Villar only laughed off moves to replace him as Senate president when he arrived from a vacation in the United States.

“There will always be those who will aspire for my position but I don’t think there will be changes,” he said.

“That is normal in the Senate. As long as you have the 13 votes then that means you are still the choice. I think majority of the Filipinos remain supportive of my leadership (as ratings showed). My colleagues have also expressed their continued support for me,” he said.

“I think that is nothing. I don’t worry about it. In fact, those who talked were all from the minority. Naturally, the ones in the minority do not agree with me. So that is normal and I don’t pay much attention to that,” Villar said.

Members of the Senate minority admitted they are unhappy over the leadership of Villar, but they also conceded they did not have the numbers to replace him.  – Aurea Calica
