DSWD program feeds 266,749 kids

-

The number of Filipino day care pupils with “normal nutritional status” significantly increased in six months as a result of the government’s supplemental feeding program to mitigate hunger, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Esperanza Cabral reported yesterday.

Cabral said a total of 266,749 children in day care centers nationwide were fed under the program from April to September this year.

Children who have normal nutritional status increased from 139,315 to 172,968 since the program was implemented this year, Cabral said.

DSWD provides milk and hot meals to children to improve their nutritional status.

Cabral said children with “low nutritional status” declined from 38,251 to 25,434; while children with “very low nutritional status” went from 2,038 to 951.

Children who achieved “above normal nutritional level” went up from 5,415 to 13,715.     – Helen Flores
