Spanish to be restored in college curriculum
Spanish will be back as a subject in college.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is preparing an order to colleges and universities to encourage the offering of the Spanish language to college students.
Lawyer Julito Vitriolo, CHED deputy executive director, said a draft circular memorandum order will most likely suggest the move to higher education institutes.
An enabling law is needed to reintroduce the teaching of Spanish as part of the curriculum in colleges and universities, he added.
However, Vitriolo said Spanish can be offered as an elective to Liberal Arts students, especially those majoring in Foreign Service, International Relations, History and similar disciplines.
