RP, S’pore sign media collaboration pact

- Paolo Romero -

The Philippines and Singapore have entered into agreement to promote bilateral collaboration in the fields of media policy and information exchange, training and human resource development, co-production and mutual exchanges, Malacañang said yesterday.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye signed the Memorandum of Understanding in behalf of the Philippine government last week.

The Singapore government was represented by Dr. Tan Chin Nam, Permanent Secretary of the Information, Communications and the Arts Ministry, and Chairman, Media Development Authority of Singapore.

“With the signing of the MOU between the Philippines and Singapore, we hope to further broaden through the media our understanding of the workings of these two countries. This is consistent with our continued efforts of building bridges to peoples and nations,” Bunye said.

For his part, Tan hailed the signing as a signal event in the world’s unprecedented interest in Asian culture and media content.

“Thus, there is great potential for ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) nations to leverage our collective culture capital for the regional and global markets,” Bunye said.

A number of companies from both countries have already indicated interest in collaborating in the areas of television, film, games and animation, he said.
