STAR joins VACC Hall of Fame

-

The Philippine STAR will receive the Hall of Fame award from the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) for being most outstanding newspaper for five consecutive years.

“The first to be extended this year, the Hall of Fame award is the highest recognition of your newspaper’s consistent quality publication with the highest concern for responsible and balanced journalism,” said VACC founding chair Dante Jimenez in a letter to The STAR’s CEO and president Miguel Belmonte.

The honor will be conferred during today’s celebration of the VACC’s ninth founding anniversary to be held at the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

“This is in keeping with the finest vision of the VACC in fighting crime and corruption and more importantly in assisting victims to seek justice and peace,” the letter read.

Chief Justice Reynato Puno will be the guest of honor and speaker in the event, which will be attended by crime victims and their relatives who have been supportive of the anti-crime group.

The VACC will also confer a posthumous award for journalism to Max Soliven, The STAR’s founding publisher. The award will be received by his widow Preciosa Soliven, secretary general of UNESCO’s National Commission of the Philippines. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
