The Philippine team won three bronze medals in the 6th International Mathematical Olympiad for Girls held in Hubei, China last Wednesday.
Winning a bronze medal each for the Philippines were Geraldine Baniqued, a sophomore at St. Paul College-Pasig; Aileen Giselle Chua, a junior at the Grace Christian High School; and Stephanie Anne Oliveros, a senior at the Philippine Science High School.
A total of 164 girls grouped into 41 teams clashed in the math olympics with host country China fielding 36 teams of more than 80 girls. The United States and Hong Kong fielded eight delegates while Russia sent four delegates.
The four-girl Philippine team, which includes Jillian Kristel Sy of Grace Christian High School, also won first prize in a dance aerobics exhibition contest held by the organizers. – Rainier Allan Ronda
