7 Pinoy students get Singapore scholarship

- Rainier Allan Ronda -

The Singapore government has granted scholarships to seven outstanding Filipino students to study in prestigious universities there, the Singaporean Embassy announced in a press statement.

The scholars, Pauline Donceras Nadua and Kevin Andrew Uy Gonzales of the University of the Philippines-Diliman; Jordan Rusell Dykimching Tee of Xavier School; Kim Patrick Aguirre of Ateneo de Manila University, Stacey Janine Tan Chong of UNO High School; Justin Daniel Tan Arcenas from PAREF-Springdale School-Cebu City, and Aldrin Chester Yap Dumago from Davao Christian High School will have the chance to study in prestigious universities like the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Management University.

The students were selected on the basis of academic merit, leadership qualities, and their potential to contribute to community development.

The scholarships, worth some P28 million, are valid for up to four years of tertiary study and cover tuition fee, airfare, annual living allowance and other miscellaneous expenses.

To date, a total of 79 scholarship grants have been awarded to outstanding Filipino students by the Singapore Government since it started giving scholarships in 1998.

Desmond Ng, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Singapore embassy in Manila, presented the awards to the seven students in a ceremony at the embassy last July 18.
