The Genuine Opposition (GO) will proclaim its 12 senatorial candidates at the Pinaglabanan Shrine in San Juan on Feb. 24, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said yesterday.
Binay, United Opposition president, said there was no postponement because the date they had earlier given to the media was tentative.
Lawyer Adel Tamano, GO spokesman, said they decided to move the proclamation from Makati to San Juan because it is the cradle of the 1898 Philippine Revolution.
The opposition’s "revolution" is based on good governance, accountability, and economic prosperity, he added.
Tamano said the "minor kinks" with guest candidates Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. and Senate Majority Leader Francisco Pangilinan have been ironed out.
The two senators would be present in the grand proclamation rally in San Juan, he added.
The other candidates are re-electionist Sen. Panfilo Lacson, former senators Loren Legarda, Nikki Coseteng and John Osmeña, congressmen Francis Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano and Benigno Aquino III, Sonia Roco, Antonio Trillanes and Aquilino Pimentel III.
Former Senate president Ernesto Maceda said he will ask Pangilinan to explain his statement to reporters last Monday that he would campaign for two candidates in the administration’s Team Unity.
On the other hand, Binay said he would talk with Pangilinan.
Pangilinan failed to join GO’s motorcade in Parañaque and Las Piñas yesterday.
