First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo arrived from Germany last night, brandishing a document that he said could prove that allegations about a supposed dollar bank account of his in Munich were untrue.
Mr. Arroyo, upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 6:45 on a Lufthansa Airlines flight, read a prepared message demanding the resignation of his accuser Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano from Congress.
"You Congressman Cayetano, have fooled the Filipino people. You Congressman Cayetano, have lied and fabricated evidence to malign the First Family. You, Congressman Cayetano, do not deserve the trust of your constituents. You, Congressman Cayetano, are an embarrassment to your colleagues in the House of Representatives. You, Congressman Cayetano, should resign from Congress for deliberately manufacturing evidence, maliciously lying, and shamelessly fooling the Filipino people with the clear objective to oust President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and grab power at all cost," Arroyo said.
He said he was carrying a certification from HypoVereinsbank that bank account 87-570-23030-32100-62771571 or any account in his name did not exist.
"Theres no paper trail, theres no bank account," the First Gentleman told reporters.
He said the bank certification read as: "(we) herewith confirm that Bayerische Hypo-und Vereinsbank AG does not maintain a bank account (a) with account number 87-570-23030-32100-62771571; or (b) in the name of Mr. Jose Miguel Arroyo."
Arroyo said Frau Evi Vollman, head general secretary of the banks board of directors; and Dr. Michael Henniger, chief legal counsel, personally handed to him the certification after a brief meeting.
"This is the proof that there is no evidence at all in those seven boxes. Thats why Congress was right and justified in dismissing the impeachment complaint," he said. With Paolo Romero
