Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA) chief Rosalinda Baldoz said in a statement that, as an expression of goodwill to Jordan, they would still process job orders verified and authenticated prior to the suspension.
"The labor and foreign affairs department has agreed on the suspension of the deployment of domestic helpers to Jordan after Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Jose del Rosario reported the growing number of distressed OFWs running away from their employers and seeking shelter at the Philippine embassy there," she said in a statement.
Baldoz said the primary concern that led to the suspension was the illegal escort service at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which, according to her, continues to be a source of undocumented and unqualified workers.
"Time and again, we have warned the public against dealing with illegal recruiters. The escort service in our premier airport is illegal and workers should not fall prey to this modus operandi," she said.
