Town sweeper fails to achieve Guinness target

- Ronilo Pamonag -
ILOILO CITY — Perhaps due to an excessive amount of garbage littering the streets, professional stuntman Jess Caigoy failed in his attempt to set a Guinness Book world record for sweeping 26 kilometers of roadways spanning three towns in 24 hours.

Sangguniang Bayan member and event manager Roberto Calaor III of Leon town informed The STAR through a text message yesterday that the 45-year-old "Master of Pain" had to give up his bid to land in the "Guinness Book of World Records" for cleaning the most streets at around 1 a.m. yesterday due to fatigue and dehydration.

Caigoy stopped after 16 hours and 37 minutes of sweeping, eight kilometers short of his goal of cleaning 26 kilometers of highways and major streets free of litter in the towns of Leon, Alimodian and San Miguel, Calaor said.

Calaor added that Caigoy stopped at Barangay Igtambo in San Miguel, about 18 kilometers into the attempt that started at about 7:25 a.m. Monday at the Leon town plaza.

Caigoy was brought to the Aleosan District Hospital, where he is now recuperating. The feat was supposed to be for the benefit of the district hospital in San Miguel town. He could not be reached for comment as of press time.
