Eddie Gil: God will punish Abalos

- Jose Aravilla -
Disqualified presidential candidate Eddie Gil stormed the Commission on Elections offices Monday night and threatened Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos with God’s wrath for spoiling his run at the presidency.

Sleepy and tired Comelec personnel were roused at midnight by Gil who sought to stop the canvassing of votes since those for him were not counted.

Worse, he claimed, "millions" of his "Eddie" votes were counted in favor of televangelist Bro. Eddie Villanueva.

"Mr. Abalos, what you did is heinous. You have more than killed me... Do not be too proud because we have a god who will punish you," Gil said.

In his familiar toupee and coat-and-tie outfit, Gil, accompanied by two of his followers, raged inside the Comelec offices in Intramuros, Manila for 30 minutes raining insults on the recently hospitalized Abalos.

Security personnel did not even bother to restrain him in his harangue that astonished the few mediamen still lounging at the Comelec head office. Afterwards the candidate eventually cooled down and voluntarily left the building.

"They did not respect the Filipino. I am not running for myself, this is to help our country especially the poor. The problem is they did not include my name," he said.

Earlier Gil claimed to be still in the running as the Supreme Court decision disqualifying him for being a nuisance candidate is not final until May 14, or the last day for him to appeal the ruling.

Gil said they have been besieged by phone calls complaining that votes for "Eddie" had been credited to Villanueva. It was Villanueva who sought Gil’s disqualification for being a nuisance and namesake.

"How come Eddie became Eduardo? What kind of education did these people have? Are they really lawyers?" he said.

Gil said his 7,800 local candidates nationwide are supporting his petition to file for a failure of elections although some of them are winning.

"No presidentiable can be pronounced a winner until this is sorted out," he declared.
