File affidavit, NCRPO chief tells Rosebud

-
Put it down in writing.

Police dared yesterday Mary "Rosebud" Ong to file a formal complaint against Sen. Panfilo Lacson in connection with her accusations that the senator had a hand in yesterday’s murder of Superintendent John Campos.

"If she presents evidence and signs a statement, then we would consider it in the investigation (of the Campos gunslaying)," said National Capital Region Police Office chief Deputy Director Reynaldo Velasco.

He stressed that the police cannot conduct an investigation on mere speculations.

Velasco also called on people who may have information that could lead to the solution of the killing to help in the investigation.

At the same time, the police official warned against making statements that could adversely affect the probe.

For his part, Southern Police District director Chief Superintendent Jose Gutierrez Jr. said they would keep an open mind in solving the crime.

"We will focus on the evidence. It’s very hard to speculate," Gutierrez said.

He said police would investigate Lacson if there is evidence directly linking the senator to the Campos slaying.

Velasco enjoined all police forces in Metro Manila to coordinate with the Parañaque police, the lead investigating unit in the case.

Gutierrez said once the suspects have been identified, it would be easy to get the mastermind and establish the motive for the murder.

Campos once worked as intelligence officer of the Cebu Metropolitan District Command then headed by Lacson.

It was there when he and cashiered Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino, also a Lacson protégé, became close friends.

After his breakup with wife Gina, a flight stewardess, Campos started dating Ong, then a civilian asset of the PNP Narcotics Group (NarGroup). The two later became live-in partners.

After NarGroup, Campos was named intelligence officer of the Southern Tagalog Regional Police Office during the term of retired PNP chief now Land Transportation Office head Roberto Lastimoso.– Nikko Dizon
