Under the program, the students can enroll at either the National University of Singapore or the Nanyang Technological University to pursue an undergraduate degree.
The scholarships were awarded by Vice President and outgoing Foreign Affairs Secretary Teofisto Guingona and Singapore Ambassador Jacky Foo in a simple ceremonies at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Pasay City yesterday.
Receiving scholarships were Jose Miguel Abito, Ateneo de Manila; Stephanie Jemima Chong, University of the Philippines-Diliman; Joyce Lu Fong, UP-Diliman; Jerome Cesar Garcia, Philippine Science High School; Jeunesse Lee, PSHS; Arthur Nicolas Nogueva, PSHS; Abigail Ong, Immaculate Concepcion Academy; Brian Yshmael Rito, Manila Science High School; Wesley Spencer See, Chiang Kai Shek High School; Michael Tulod, Muntinlupa National Science High School; Ivy de los Santos, PSHS-Southern Mindanao; Jimmy Justin Glenn Lo, Stella Maris Academy of Davao; Karen Nadua, PSHS-Southern Mindanao; and Olan Racaza, PSHS-Southern Mindanao.
"They were chosen as part of this years Singapore scholars because we believe they will make a difference, not just for themselves but for this country. They will graduate, they will come home and they will make significant contributions to the Philippines. I am sure their parents are very proud of them," Foo said in his speech.
Nine other Filipino students were awarded the Singapore International Foundation-ASEAN (SIF-ASEAN) Fellowship Awards for excellence in academics and student activities.
The awardees were Natalie Rubnan Que, Duke Maglinte Bajenteng, Kenneth Matthew Chua, Raz dela Torre, Reinalyn Ong Gopun, Richard Abalos, Charity Lopez Pascua, Mary Ann Baon Manahan, and Brian Vincent Leonio Belen. Pia Lee-Brago
