May 8 is World Red Cross Day

The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) joins the 178 national member societies of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the International Committee of the Red Cross in paying tribute to the movement’s founder, Henry Dunant, who was born on May 8, 1828.

The movement will also honor millions of volunteers and members worldwide and the unsung heroes who died or were killed in the performance of their humanitarian mission.

For PNRC, the theme for this year’s celebration of World Red Cross Day is "More than 8 on May 8".

The purpose of the theme is to integrate World Red Cross Day celebration with the PNRC Membership Drive which will be in full swing on May 8.

The theme "More than 8 on May 8" is aimed at encouraging each volunteer to recruit more than eight new members on May 8.

Volunteers in full Red Cross uniform and ID will be fielded in selected malls, supermarkets, movie theaters, airport and other high traffic areas where they could recruit new members.

Red Cross membership is open to all residents of the Philippines from age 6 to 60 years old. Membership fee is P35 per individual.

Immediately upon payment and filling up membership form, each member will be given an ID card and will be entitled to basic health and accident benefits within one year of coverage.
