Deadline for paying taxes moved to April 18

President Arroyo has extended the deadline for filing of income tax returns to April 18 from April 16.
The President approved the extension apparently due to the long holiday period as government offices closed shop at noon yesterday.
"With the extension of the deadline for the filing of income tax returns, I urge our countrymen to pay their correct taxes at the proper time," the President said.
The President made the announcement as she ordered Internal Revenue Commissioner Rene Bañez to extend the deadline to allow taxpayers more time to file their returns.
"This will also allow the BIR to accommodate more income tax filers and avoid the rush and congestion at BIR offices that usually happen during the last day of filing of income tax returns," Mrs. Arroyo said. – Marichu Villanueva
