Donations pouring in for blast victims

Despite the hard times, Filipinos are reaching deep into their pockets to ease the suffering of the victims of the Rizal Day bombings in Metro Manila.

A young mother, who identified herself only as MFB, gave a donation of P10,000 to The Philippine STAR’s "Operation Da-mayan" fund campaign for the victims of the bombing, which has so far killed over 22 people and injured close to 100 others. MFB made a special request that her donation be given to Jomarwin Torlao (who was first identified as "Emmanuel"), the three-year-old boy who lost his leg in the explosion that rocked a coach of the Light Railway Transit at the Blumentritt station in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Two anonymous donors, one of them from Iligan City, sent in P5,000 each. Yesterday’s other donors were Ellaine Sadang (P1,200), Peter Sy (P1,000), and Rommel Cortuba (P500). With their donations, the fund drive totals P102, 700 as of Jan. 5.

Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella was the first to contribute to the fund campaign, with a donation of P50,000.

Donors to the ongoing fund drive may get in touch tomorrow with Operation Damayan coordinator Melita Dioso at 527-79-01.
