20 Metro police station chiefs are overstaying, unqualified
Some 20 police station commanders in Metro Manila are either overstaying in their posts or not qualified for the job.
Metro Manila police director Chief Superintendent Edgar Aglipay said yesterday he is presently coordinating with concerned mayors to find a workable solution to the overstaying or unqualified officials.
Aglipay suspended this week a planned mass replacement of overstaying and unqualified police officials after a number of Metro Manila mayors submitted their opposition. Unqualified police officials are those who have not finished the Police Officer's Senior Executive Course (POSEC).
Among those who opposed was Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, whose police chief, Superintendent Rolando Navarro, has been overstaying for six months now.
To prevent the problem from going out of hand, Aglipay is consulting Metro Manila mayors to get their views. "I'm coordinating with the Metro Manila mayors to find a workable solution and find replacements able to provide better services to the people," said Aglipay.
Aglipay clarified that all the 37 station commanders in Metro Manila are working diligently to maintain peace and order. However, he will be forced to replace 20 of them because they are not qualified or are overstaying.
Of these, the Central Police and Western Police Districts have seven each, Southern Police District has 4 and the Northern Police and Eastern Police Districts one each.
Aside from Fresnedi, Aglipay also met over the weekend with Pasig City Mayor Vicente Eusebio, Ismael Mathay of Quezon City and Ricardo Papa of Taguig. He will visit the remaining mayors this week, he said.
