MEXICO, Pampanga - A former vice mayoral candidate was killed in front of his wife and children while they were leaving the Santo Domingo Church here after hearing Mass last Sunday morning.
Rey Flores, 47, died on arrival at the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Hospital in San Fernando where policemen had taken him after the shooting. His wife and children were not hurt.
Chief Inspector Audie Atienza, this town's police chief, said Flores of Barangay Domingo ran for vice mayor of Mexico during the 1998 elections, and lost.
Witnesses told police Flores and his family were walking toward their car inside the church compound when two unidentified men approached them, drew their .45 caliber pistols and shot Flores several times at close range.-
