Fatal shooting of National Center for Mental Health chief Roland Cortez

Police report indicates that two unidentified male gunmen fired successive shots at the victims after knocking at the ride side door of a red Toyota Vios that Cortez, 61, and Dela Cruz, 46, were riding.

Responding crime scene operatives recovered two fired bullets of unidentified caliber.

The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.

Roland Cortez, the chief of the National Center for Mental Health, and his driver were shot dead this morning at Tandang Sora in Quezon City, police confirm in reports.

Assailants riding a motorcycle shot Cortez and Ernesto Ponce dela Cruz inside a car.

The state-run facility in Mandaluyong is the premier mental health institution in the Philippines.
